Stormwater management BEST

Project target

Decoupling of the stormwater/rainwater for use for street cleaning machines. Installation of photovoltaic systems as well as conversion of the heating system to district heating. Construction of a new social amenities and administration building with solar heat to support the hot water system.

Time period2010 to 2013
Target groupCity of Bottrop
Project idea

The city of Bottrop will, in the course of the reorganisation of the operating yard/depot of the BEST (Bottrop Disposal and City Cleaning) in Mozartstraße / Schubertstraße, decouple the stormwater accumulating on the roof areas of the existing buildings "vehicle depot" and "workshop hall" as well as the roof area of the new  vehicle depot building, from the combined sewer and feed it to stormwater utilisation. Additionally the stormwater accumulating that collects on the roof of a newly planned vehicle depot will be sent to the same cistern system (new construction will take place on a fully sealed ground area ). The stormwater utilisation takes place via the "fuelling" of the sweeping machines of the street cleaning service on work days, in the case of which so far drinking water has been sprayed to reduce dust during the sweeping process. Moreover, the buildings  "vehicle depot" and "workshop hall" are to be fully equipped with photovoltaic units and the heating unit of the workshop hall is to be converted to district heating. Likewise the construction of a new social amenities and administration building with solar heat to support the hot water system and with a heating system using district heat is planned.
