Project idea

In Germany so far more than 2,000 companies of different sectors and sizes  – from the small bakery business as far as the chemical group, from the medium-sized automotive workshop, football club as far as service companies  – have taken part in this location-safeguarding project. After three independent rounds during the years 2003/04, 2005/06 and 2007/08, the City of Bottrop took part in a joint municipal project together with Gelsenkirchen, Gladbeck and Herne in 2010/11. There were 14 businesses taking part for the first time and three more businesses taking part again. The balance of the 17 participants was positive in every respect: More than 100 ideas successfully implemented for more environmental protection in the business and annual savings of € 416,000 have been recorded. Due to the reduction of energy consumption by 2.6 million kWh the CO2 output of the companies is reduced by 1,300 t per annum. In addition, approx. 73 t of waste and 5,200 m3 of waste water are avoided. As less energy also means lower costs and less carbon dioxide, everybody gains something from this programme that is being supervised by B.A.U.M. Consult based in Hamm. The project is supported by the Ministry of Climate Protection, the Environment, Agriculture, Nature Conservation and Consumer Protection of the Land of North Rhine-Westphalia
